How Our Training Works

Step 1

Assessment and Foundation

We start with a comprehensive behavioural assessment to understand the issues you are having with your dog. We also assess your commitment level and expectations. Only after we fully understand the picture do we build the foundation skills your dog needs to succeed

Step 2

Tool Introduction and Conditioning

Once foundation skills are solid, we introduce the right tool for your dog's specific challenge. This might be an ecollar for recall, a slip lead for leash work, or something else entirely. Whatever tool we use, we condition it properly in a safe, controlled environment first. Your dog learns to trust it before we take it into the real world

Step 3

Progressive Trigger Exposure

Urban Wolves offers training programs to help owners have a better relationship with their dogs.

Step 4

Real World Application

In the final weeks, we practice in real-world scenarios to build on your dog’s training. You leave the program with confidence that you know exactly how to maintain and build on the foundations you have learnt.

How We Compare

Common approach

Generic advice that does not change once you leave the session
Too much focus on drills that do not address the actual issue
Treating every reactive dog like the same case
Owners left confused about what to do when things go wrong

Urban Wolves Approach

Training built around the dog in front of you and the life you actually live
A direct focus on the behaviour that is causing the problem
Balanced training with clear communication and practical handling
Homework that is there for a reason, not just to keep you busy

This is for you if…

You are serious about improving your dog's behaviour, not just managing around it.
You want support with recall, reactivity, or both.
You will commit to the sessions and the homework.
You want honest guidance, not vague reassurance.
You want your dog to have more freedom and a better quality of life.

This is not for you if…

You want a quick fix without putting any work in between sessions.
You are looking for endless theory but no practical plan.
You want to ignore the issue and hope it passes on its own.
You only want training that looks nice on paper, even if it is not working.
You are not open to clear structure, accountability, or follow-through.

About Us

Toni is the owner and head trainer of Urban Wolves. With nearly a decade of hands on experience working with dogs of all ages, breeds, and temperaments, Toni brings a depth of knowledge and genuine passion to every session.

Toni specialises in reactive dogs because she understands the frustration of being stuck, feeling like traditional training hasn't worked, and wondering if your dog can ever live freely off-leash. Through balanced training rooted in dog behaviour and practical application, she helps transform reactive dogs to calm off leash freedom

Toni is qualified through one on one mentorship with world renowned dog trainer Tyler Muto. She also holds a Certificate in Canine Behaviour and Training through NDTF, and a Bachelor of Applied Science majoring in Animal Management and Welfare. Toni is committed to continuous professional development and staying current with advances in her field.

Her mission is simple: to help you build a better relationship with your dog.

Our Methodology

Toni is a balanced dog trainer. This means she uses all four quadrants of learning. The majority of Toni's training utilises positive reinforcement, but for some dogs, especially reactive ones, that's not enough on its own. Sometimes she will use corrections like a slip leash pop, a squirt with a water bottle, or a noise corrector to communicate clearly when your dog can't access what they know, whether that's from anxiety, frustration, excitement, or because they've never learned the skill in that context. Toni believes that training is not a "one size fits all" and will develop a training plan she believes will be the most beneficial for your dog.

Toni also does not believe that one training tool is suitable for all dogs. Toni uses training tools thoughtfully; she mainly uses slip leashes, long lines, ecollars for recall, and occasionally head halters or prong collars. Every tool serves a purpose. Every tool is used with full transparency and in accordance with the Animal Welfare and Dog Control Bylaw Acts.

The bottom line: Toni uses what works for your dog. If that approach doesn't align with what you're looking for, that's okay. We're probably not a fit. But if you want a dog that can actually enjoy life off-leash without being a liability, we should talk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which program is right for my dog?+

Every dog is different, which is why we offer a free consultation call before you commit to anything. During this call, we will discuss your dog's specific challenges, your goals, and recommend the best program for your situation. Whether it is recall, reactivity, or general obedience, we will find the right fit.

How long before I see results?+

Most clients if they stick to the program and attend training sessions notice changes within the first few sessions. However, lasting transformation takes consistency and commitment from both you and your dog. Our programs are structured to build progressively, so each week builds on the last.

Do you use ecollars on every dog?+

No. We use a range of tools depending on what is most appropriate for each individual dog. Everything is discussed with you transparently before we begin.

Do you offer payment plans?+

Please get in touch to discuss payment options. We want training to be accessible and are happy to have a conversation about what works for you.

What if my dog is reactive towards other dogs?+

This is one of our specialities. Our Reactivity Rehab Program is specifically designed for dogs that lunge, bark, or lose control around other dogs or people. We have helped many dogs go from being unable to walk past another dog to being calm and confident in public.

What happens when the program ends?+

Training does not stop when the program finishes. You will have all the tools, knowledge, and techniques to continue building on the progress made. We also offer follow-up sessions if you need a refresher or want to work on new goals.

What areas do you cover?+

We are based in Auckland and provide services across the North Shore and West Auckland areas. If you are unsure whether we cover your area, please get in touch and we can discuss.

What if I want to do ecollar recall training but I have a nervous dog?+

We have used ecollar with a range of different dogs with varying different levels of confidence that have thrived on this training.
